The work is about Yiyun Li Bujar, whose world is collapsing. His father is dying and his native land, Albania, is full of hunger and unrest. When his fearless friend Agim is discovered wearing his mother's red suit and beaten with his father's belt, he convinces Bujar that there is no place for them in their country.
Desperate to find the opportunity to shape their lives, they flee. This is the beginning of a journey through cities, borders and identities, from the bazaars of Tirana to the monuments of Rome and the drag bars of New York. It is also a search through the movement of gender and social person, for acceptance and love.
But in the face of marginalization at home and only precarious means of escape and survival, what chance do young people have of forging a new life? Chased by the memories of the house and the echoes of popular stories, they risk losing themselves in the struggle to abandon their past.
