On Sunday 19 August, an important event was held in the Ukrainian city of Izmail: the ethnic Albanian evening dedicated to all the Albanians of the Bessarabia and of Ukraine in general.
Also present at the event were the director of the Albanians of Ukraine, Aleksander Dermentli, as well as the director of the Albanian Izmail organization "The Albanian Garden", Ilja Rusinski. In their home, Ilja Rusinski and his partner Nina Kunicinaja, welcomed the guests.
More than twenty years ago, his family began to collect objects from the daily life of the inhabitants of Bessarabia, including in this way also Albanian citizens. With the passage of time the idea of creating an ethnographic museum was born in their home and in their garden. Today, this unique collection has more than 4.000 objects.
The overwhelming part of this collection comes from the Albanian village of Karakurt. Just on Sunday 19 August, the Albanians gathered not only to celebrate the summer festival but also to celebrate the 574 years of the reconquest of the castle of Kruja, a fundamental episode in the formation of Albanian identity. In the 15th century, in fact, Kruja became the seat of the Albanian rebellion led by the hero Giorgio Castriota Scanderbeg.
As highlighted by Aleksander Dermentli, the first Albanian organization was formed in Izmail this year with the aim of promoting ethnic Albanians in the territory of Bessarabia. More than a hundred Albanians live in Izmail while the majority of the inhabitants of Black Wolf it is Albanian.
However, the majority of the ethnic Albanian minority lives mainly in Odessa. The summer party has been the organization's first official event since its creation. And it will certainly not be the last: the Albanians are planning to present their ethnicity on the feast day of the city of Izmail.
For the summer party, guests from Karakurt and the others were able to enjoy the Albanian music performed by the orchestra led by Ivan Gaitanzhi. The event also included a tasting of 15 different types of wine.
