The national center of the book and of reading - an institution that will take care of establishing policies and strategies on everything related to books - has officially come to life. Indeed, the Council of Ministers approved the request of the Ministry of Culture concerning the establishment of this center.
Mirela Kumbaro's latest project
Mirela Kumbaro - now a former minister of culture - has made the news official:
"Proud to put the latest signature as Minister of Culture for the termination of a project that we have been pursuing for two years: the national book and reading center has been created.
Albania will thus follow in the footsteps of France, Italy and beyond, relying on an institution dedicated to the strategies and programming of books, reading, creativity and education through the emancipation of the mind."- wrote Mirela Kumbaro on her social media profiles.
The statement of the Council of Ministers
"The national book and reading center was created and will function as a legal, public, budgetary entity with the status of a central institution - subject to the responsible minister - based in Tirana.
Its purpose will be to fulfill the tasks of development and direct services in the field of books, within and outside the territory of the Republic of Albania.
Its mission will be to follow and implement projects in the field of the book, according to the ministerial program of the government responsible for the book, with the aim of spreading the culture of literacy throughout the country, promoting creativity and strengthening the educational role of libraries."- reads the statement of the Council of Ministers.
Elva Margariti, the new minister of culture
It will now be up to the new Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, to designate the new structure of this center and its first responsible director.
Elva Margariti, an architect by profession, was a professor at the University 'Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio in Tirana'. She finished her studies in Florence, Italy, while in the past she was a trusted advisor to Prime Minister Edi Rama and coordinator responsible for the '100 villages' program.
