On Wednesday 22 February 2012 will host the press conference and the screening of the documentary MADEIN ALBANIA by Stefania Casini. MADEIN ALBANIAis a documentary film that tells the story of today's Albania, 21 years after the fall of the totalitarian regime through the eyes and encounters of three twenties.A documentary built like a film on the road that follows the three protagonists in their solitary journeys tells the story of encounters with very particular characters.
The encounters are emotional close encounters, which allow you to discover new parts of the country: places like Kombinat the old textile complex that has become a land of conquest for those who come down from the north and settle in Tirana in search of work, or the rural reality of a moving beauty abandoned mining towns, or harsh mountains where you break your back to look for chromium.
Stories of the past intersect, for having experienced it firsthand, and contrasts of the present of a nation that in 20 years has gone from total closure to freedom of the internet. A perhaps too sudden passage of a country still in transition.
The protagonists are Vito, who leaves from Salento to Albania convinced to find his stolen bike. Obviously his vision of Albania is the classic stereotype: frontier land, where stolen motorcycles and cars converge. During the trip he will know a different and unexpected reality. Rubin was an active mind in the MIAFT movement when young people, encouraged by the change of the then mayor Edi RAMA, demonstrated against corruption and sought a political way to exercise democracy. Today, disappointed by politics, she deals with music and has opened a cultural center with some friends, the Tirana Express, which in a short time has become the reference point of the active youth of Tirana.Bora is a young woman who studies abroad and returns to Albania for the holidays. She also played in the Miaft with Rubin. Our meeting was crucial to understand that it would be perfect for the documentary, because she too is the result of the contrasts that animate this country.Bora meets Vito, thanks to her friend Rubin and tries to help him as she can to find the bike then she recommends to continue the journey alone if he really wants to understand something of Albania.
In the documentary we follow him south to meet some friends like Luan, the old smuggler who without rhetoric tells us how things really were in Vlore at the time of the smuggling of illegal immigrants. We will come to his parents and discover another Albania, with a strong sense of family, of traditions, of the will to build a new country. Vito passes through their lives like a meteor and becomes a sort of pretext for giving way to the three journeys that intersect and alternate to give us a vision of the country. Vito heads north following the impossible track of his motorbike, Bora towards Scutari to see the house where he lived as a child for one last time, and then in the deep north attracted by a still mainly rural Albania. Rubin returns to the south to find his parents, a film with a narrative fabric that blends into the language of the documentary. Each character we meet tells us with his truths a piece of this country so close and so little known. In the portrait of Albania we find a lot of us Italians, personally I feel at home and the great hospitality, ingenuity, ferment, individualism of the Albanians reminds me of Italy in the 60s.
