The 28 June 2017 Albania News published a my article accompanied by a hundred photographs of one of my trips made in Albania in the 1982 (link article , link photo gallery ). The photographic story, taken up by all the Albanian media, immediately became viral with thousands of shares. Still today the photographs continue to circulate and emerge from every corner of the network.
A few days after the publication, an historian of Albanian origin contacted me, a researcher from the Austrian Academy of Sciences - Idrit Idrizi born in Scutari in the 1986 - and he explained to me that he was working on a book on everyday life in communist Albania in the seventies and eighties. He told me that some of my photographs would have been useful to illustrate some aspects mentioned in the work. I authorized him to use the images of his interest free of charge, asking him only to quote me as an author. Today that project has become reality in the form of a ponderous book (326 pages), written in German, with the title Herrschaft Und Alltag Im Albanischen Spätsozialismus 1976-1985, translatable into "Obligations and daily life in the late phase of Albanian socialism (1976-1985)". The cover image is one of my black and white photographs of a palace of power in Scutari. Inside the volume contains numerous other images from the analyzed period, one of which was taken from my album.
Idrit Idrizi, in the book, approaches the Albanian communist system with an innovative multi-perspective theoretical method. The author is based on a great deal of sources, examines the way in which political domination has been exercised, implemented, applied and legitimized in conditions partially devoid of historical precedents; analyzes how the same system has been accepted and re-interpreted by the population until the weakening of this political and social "experiment".
Idrit Idrizi he studied historical and political sciences in Vienna and at the Free University of Berlin and Human Rights in Vienna. From 2012 to 2017 he was a research fellow at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and at the University of Vienna. Since 2017 he is assistant to the Institute for Eastern European History at the University of Vienna.
Since I believe that academic research is an important factor in the development of society, I am happy to have helped the young scholar's work. The book - I repeat, written in German - can be found in Austrian bookstores and on Amazon Italy, Austria, Germany and on numerous other Austrian and German online stores and also on ebay.it (the price is around 38-40 euros plus the shipping costs that can vary a lot depending on the seller).
