The famous Albanian artist Sislej Xhafa will return to his homeland, Kosovo, for an exhibition during the 2018. The news was announced by the National Gallery of Arts in Kosovo.
The selected projects to be exhibited for the current year in addition to the name of the artist currently residing in New York; they also include Thomas Hirschhorn, Shpresa Faqi, Gani Llalloshi, Emine Krasniqi and Leonid Palushaj.
Born in 1970 in Peja, Kosovo, Xhafa lived for a while too in Italy.. It is a name well known in contemporary art. Only a year ago he was the protagonist of the Kosovo pavilion at the 57ma Biennale di Venezia with the opera Lost and Found (Vogue interview)
In December, however, he held an exhibition at the "Shadow of curls" in Berlin.
In his work the references to Albanian culture are frequent, to which the artist still feels deeply connected. The themes of human rights, clandestinity, migration and travel have always characterized his works. His works focus on the contradictions and absurdities of reality and the contemporary world.
As for group exhibitions, the collection of French artists from the Skopje arts museum, the exhibition of Albanian socialist architecture, the Amateras foundation from Bulgaria and the 'Desire for freedom' project from Bosnia will arrive in Kosovo. "In return" the 'Radiant Nature' exhibition will be exhibited in the Sarajevo National Gallery and various activities are planned in Sofia and Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
While within the program 'conference and debates' are planned: a regional conference on the independence of Kosovo; conferences and presentations by curators, art directors and various guest artists; parallel workshops dealing with similar topics.
Meanwhile, the Albanian National Gallery has not yet published the program regarding the 2018 year as it will be completed in a few days, at the end of February.
