The 30 November 2008 begins in the city of Bologna the Odyssey of the photographic exhibition "Images of overseas". The protagonists of this exhibition are the photographs taken by the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and the leitmotiv is a point of view that frames the present and the past of Albania. Depicting through the fragments captured by the film, the footprints left by the past and the dreams that the future gives to it.
The photographs on display give space to personal interpretation and at the same time communicate their message unperturbed. We immediately notice the desire of these students to highlight the antinomies of this place so small, yet so rich in contrasts.
The exhibition has developed in university environments and marks an important collaboration between student associations present in different cities of Italy such as Bologna, Pavia, Milan and Florence.
The exhibition aroused interest not only in the minds of Albanian students but also in those of students from other communities. And it is their curiosity and their involvement for such a physically close and mentally impaired place to highlight their positive outcome.
Among the most touching images was a collage of photographs depicting the life of Albanian students, the path taken from childhood to the achievement of their goal: the degree.
This exhibition can be considered as a window from which a moving Albania can be seen, a place in transition. Progress and regression. A window that reveals the desire for development and integration and denounces a silent criticism of the phenomena that deserve attention.
"Images of overseas" managed to mobilize a considerable number of inhabitants of Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Tuscany, thus tracing the undoubted success of the event and making the Odyssey the final route of a long journey and the " awakening ”from a lasting and silent sleep represented by the social criticism, giving finally the possibility to the visitors to reflect.
The last few days the exhibition spends them in the wonderful city of Florence where, in the midst of so much art, literature, poetry, culture and history, he greets for the last time all the students who collaborated to make it accessible to the public.
The initiative is the result of intense work by the Union of Albanian students of Bologna (USAB) and a long collaboration with similar organizations operating in the aforementioned cities of Italy. The associations are: ASAUP of Pavia, NewAge of Milan and ASUF of Florence. Thanks to the contribution of the leaders of these associations it has been possible to propose this cultural message to most of Italy.
