The special envoy of President Trump, Richard Grenell, during a meeting with Serbian President Aleksander Vucic said that the agreement on the railways was reached in principle.
Grenell also reiterated that Kosovo should abolish tariffs imposed on Serbian products, while Serbia must stop its attempts to convince states to withdraw recognition of the state of Kosovo.
After working for the presence of one airline operating flights between Kosovo and Serbia, the American envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia talks announced that in Belgrade he managed to convince the parties to also agree on the railways.
"I had the consent of the Kosovar side during the meetings in Pristina, but I could not make the news public without the consent of the Serbian side in Belgrade, which is why the news was made public today," said Grenell.
"If there is no Kosovo-Serbia agreement, America will withdraw"
The American envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Richard Grenell said that if Kosovo and Serbia do not sit down and reach a reasonable solution, the United States will abandon the negotiations.
“The parties will tell me what they think and what they want. I try to focus on a better future for people in Kosovo and Serbia. We must do everything possible to overcome what everyone sees as conflict. If the two sides don't move and reach an agreement, we will withdraw from the negotiations " said the senior American official.
The day before yesterday in Belgrade, Grenell also reiterated the need for the lifting of customs duties and the stop of the Serbian campaign against the recognition of Kosovo.
Three days ago the airline Lufthansa announced to the Kosovo authorities that it would open an airline that it will connect to Prishtina-Belgrade very early.
The announcement was made at a ceremony at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin in the presence of Ambassador Richard Grenell, where representatives of the Lufthansa Company sent a letter to the Kosovo Civil Aviation Authority, informing Kosovo authorities of this intention, and asking the institutions of the country to offer their support also in view of activating other air routes.
The Director General of the Kosovo Civil Aviation Authority, Eset Berisha, said that this letter represents a further step forward in involving the institutions of Kosovo to fill the void of airspace traffic in Kosovo.
