The Albanian cuisine is typical of the hilly and mountain areas, which uses fresh and genuine ingredients, grown organically in the vegetable gardens of the houses, or foods derived from sheep farming. The long Turkish occupation has given the traditional Albanian cuisine a wide use of oriental spices.

The influence of Turkish cuisine is also present in the variety of soups and especially in desserts, which are generally soaked in syrups. In the last 20 years, from the resumption of relations with the western shore of the Adriatic, Italian cuisine has had a strong influence in that of restaurants as well as in families, moreover in the maritime areas of Albania.
